Vascular Occlusion Simulation Training is an immersive, evidence-based course designed to help aesthetic providers recognize vascular complications early, understand the underlying pathophysiology, and develop a structured approach to clinical management. Through didactic education, literature review, hands-on simulation, and clinical debriefing, participants move beyond simply knowing what to do and practice how to respond when it matters.

From Recognition to Response
Effective management of a vascular occlusion begins before the complication occurs.
The goal is not to memorize a single algorithm. It is to develop the clinical knowledge, preparation, and confidence needed to assess a complication and respond systematically.
Evidence-Based Education
Your preparation begins before you arrive at Skin Synthesis. Attendees receive pre-course reading that explores the current literature surrounding vascular occlusion and its management. This allows participants to arrive prepared to engage in a deeper discussion of the evidence, rather than spending the entire course learning the basics.
The course begins with a didactic lecture and discussion covering the pathophysiology, assessment, prevention, and management of vascular occlusion.
We will also explore the practical questions that arise when managing a complication in the real world: What do you do first? What are you looking for? What do you document? When do you escalate care? What does your team do while you are managing the patient?
Simulation-Based Learning
Knowing what to do on paper is different from doing it under pressure. The second portion of the course moves from theory into hands-on simulation training. Participants will work through realistic vascular occlusion scenarios designed to replicate the clinical decision-making required during an adverse event.
Participants will assess a simulated vascular occlusion, identify clinical findings, develop a management plan, and work collaboratively through the scenario. Participants will also work through a vision-related emergency, focusing on recognition, assessment, immediate response, escalation, communication, and transfer considerations.
Each scenario is followed by structured debriefing and discussion, allowing participants to examine their clinical decisions, identify opportunities for improvement, and learn from one another. Simulation is widely used throughout healthcare to prepare clinicians for high-stakes situations. BLS, ACLS, mock codes, fire drills, and emergency simulations exist for a reason: when an emergency occurs, preparation matters. Aesthetic medicine should be no different.

The course is held at Skin Synthesis in Seattle, a luxury aesthetic practice with a longstanding commitment to clinical education, patient safety, evidence-based medicine, and operational excellence. The training environment allows participants to step outside of their everyday clinical setting and focus entirely on preparation, assessment, decision-making, and response. This is intentionally an interactive learning experience. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions, collaborate with other aesthetic providers, practice clinical scenarios, and receive feedback during debriefing.
Course Objective
At the conclusion of the course, participants will have a stronger understanding of the prevention, pathophysiology, recognition, assessment, and management of vascular occlusion, along with practical resources to further develop their own emergency preparedness systems.
More importantly, they will have had the opportunity to practice responding to a complication before they are faced with one in real life.
